Front and rear vehicle axle weights
-
Caravan or trailer axle weights
-

-
Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM)

Why should I have my vehicle and caravan weighed?
Vehicle and caravan weights can change when passengers, accessories, fuel, water, food, tools, bikes and other equipment are added.
Professional weighing provides a clearer understanding of your actual loaded weights, axle loads, available payload and overall weight distribution.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Your vehicle, caravan or trailer should be loaded as close as possible to the way it will normally travel.
This may include:
-
Passengers
-
Fuel
-
Water
-
Gas bottles
-
Food and clothing
-
Bikes
-
Tools
-
Recovery equipment
-
Camping and touring gear
The more accurately your setup represents normal travelling conditions, the more useful your results will be.
Do passengers need to be present?
Where possible, the people who normally travel in the vehicle should be present during weighing.
If passengers cannot attend, let us know before the appointment so their weight can be considered when discussing the results.
Should my water tanks and fuel tanks be full?
Your tanks should be filled to the level you would normally carry while travelling.
If you usually travel with full water and fuel tanks, they should ideally be full for the weighing appointment. If you travel with less water, present the caravan in that normal configuration and tell us the approximate tank levels.
Do you come to my home?
Yes. Coast 2 Coast Weighing is a mobile service and can attend your home, workplace, storage facility, yard, depot or another suitable arranged location.
What type of ground is required?
The weighing area must be firm, dry and reasonably level, with a concrete, asphalt or sealed-bitumen surface.
Gravel, road base, grass, dirt, soft ground and areas with surface water are not suitable for accurate mobile weighing.
How much space is required?
The available weighing area should be at least 1.5 times the overall length of your connected vehicle and caravan or trailer.
There must also be sufficient width and clear access to safely position and move the complete setup.
What happens if I do not have a suitable area?
Send us photos and approximate measurements of the proposed location before your appointment.
Where your property is unsuitable, we may be able to arrange another appropriate location nearby.
Should the caravan be connected when you arrive?
For a complete vehicle and caravan assessment, the caravan should normally be connected and presented in its usual travelling configuration.
We may connect, disconnect and reposition the combination during the weighing process to obtain the required measurements.
What should I do with my weight-distribution hitch?
Present your towing setup as it would normally be used and let us know if you use a weight-distribution hitch.
Depending on the assessment, measurements may be taken in different configurations to help show how the tow ball load and hitch setup affect the vehicle’s axle weights.
Always follow the tow vehicle, towbar, caravan and hitch manufacturers’ instructions regarding the suitability and adjustment of a weight-distribution hitch.
What is tow ball weight transfer?
When a caravan is connected, the tow ball load acts behind the tow vehicle’s rear axle.
This increases the load carried by the rear axle and can remove weight from the vehicle’s front axle. Measuring the vehicle in connected and disconnected configurations helps show how the tow ball load affects the axle weights.
How long does an appointment take?
Appointment times vary depending on the service booked, the number of axles, the vehicle configuration and whether additional measurements are required.
We will provide an expected appointment duration when confirming your booking.
What will I receive after the weighing?
You will receive a comprehensive report showing the measured weights, nominated limits, remaining payload and relevant calculations for the service booked.
We explain the results in clear, practical language and discuss any areas that may require attention.
Will you provide weight and load-distribution advice?
Yes. We explain how the weight is distributed across the individual wheels and axles and provide practical guidance on managing payload.
This may include discussing the placement of water, batteries, bikes, tools, food, luggage and other equipment.
What happens if my vehicle or caravan is overweight?
We will explain which measurement exceeds or approaches its nominated limit and discuss practical options that may help reduce or redistribute the load.
Depending on the result, this could involve removing unnecessary equipment, changing where items are stored, reducing water carried or seeking advice from an appropriately qualified vehicle or caravan specialist.
Does a weighing report guarantee that my setup is compliant?
Our report compares the measured weights presented at the appointment with the nominated limits and information available for your setup.
Weights can change whenever passengers, water, fuel, accessories or equipment are added, removed or repositioned. Vehicle owners and drivers remain responsible for ensuring their vehicle and trailer comply with all applicable requirements whenever they are used on the road.
Is the report an engineering certificate?
No. A mobile weighing report records and explains the measured weights of the setup presented at the appointment.
It is not a substitute for an engineering certificate, modification approval, registration inspection or advice from a government authority where one of those documents is required.
Do you provide weighbridge certificates?
Weighbridge certificate services may be available for applicable vehicle, trailer or registration requirements.
Tell us why the certificate is required when booking so we can confirm whether we can provide the correct service for your needs.
How often should I have my setup weighed?
Consider having your setup weighed when:
-
Preparing for a major trip
-
Purchasing a new vehicle, caravan or trailer
-
Adding accessories or modifications
-
Installing additional batteries, solar equipment or water tanks
-
Adding a bike rack, generator, toolbox or storage system
-
Changing how your vehicle or caravan is normally loaded
-
You are uncertain about your remaining payload or axle weights
-
Can you weigh a vehicle or caravan separately?
Yes. We offer vehicle-only weighing and can provide caravan or trailer weighing as a separate service by arrangement.
Contact us with your setup details so we can confirm the appropriate service and price.
